Another continent, so close by. Make a day-trip
to the other side, to the mainland opposite of Kos: visit
Turkey, spend a day at Bodrum. Find out the differences and
the similarities (!).
The Greeks still call it ' Halikarnassos', its name in the
"old days" when Minor Asia was a part of Greece.
Now-days Bodrum is small Turkish city (20.000 inhabitants)
with many remains of the past, like the mausoleum, the amphitheater
and the castle of the knights of St. John. Especially the
last one is impressive, you can hardly oversea it. The fortress,
very well preserved, welcomes you at the harbor-entrance in
a majestic way. Wander around the big walls and don't forget
to visit the two museums (the archeological 'underwater' museum
and the museum of the princess) inside the castle.
The center of Bodrum consists of many small typical Turkish
shops. The local shop-owners are friendly and hospitable and
for sure they will invite you to try their apple tea.
